Ministers disagreeing openly is embarrassing
FocusM | 01 Feb 2019 00:30
IT does not augur well for the government when its ministers argue or contradict each other openly. It shows a serious lack of communication or engagement among them.

Even Tun Daim Zainuddin has advised Cabinet ministers not to quarrel openly as it could make people become disillusioned with the government. The chairman of the Council of Eminent Persons said there should not be any open conflict.

Recently, Minister of Economic Affairs Datuk Azmin Ali and Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng made contradictory statements on the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project. This is strange considering that the project’s fate was discussed in the Cabinet earlier.

Azmin and Guan Eng are not alone. In the past, we saw Entrepreneur De velopment Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Yusof airing his views on expanding his ministry’s scope to include trade and investment. He even claimed the prime minis ter had responded positively to his proposal.
