The outlet in Pavilion is TR Fire Grill’s very first international venture

All-American food with a creative edge – this is what you can expect when you visit TR Fire Grill, which opened recently in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. The award-winning American bistro from Florida’s first restaurant in Malaysia is also its first outpost overseas.

Spanning over 5,000 sq ft, it has a maximum seating capacity of 180 people and comes with a bar serving its award-winning cocktails as well as a cigar room that offers a bird’s eye view of the city. For those who prefer to dine discreetly, a private room is available for reservations.

As for the food, expect hearty dishes bound to satisfy meat lovers. Executive chef Mohamad Bashir was sent to the US for a two-month training stint to master the dishes and execute them perfectly here.

“The meats are grilled, fried or cooked in a stone oven, and made fresh daily. For instance, our oven-roasted chickens should be served within four hours, after which we make a new batch,” Bashir explains.

Bashir recommends starting with the Prime Rib Egg Rolls

He recommends starting with the Prime Rib Egg Rolls, which is flavourful in every bite thanks to the pairing of caramelised onions, cheddar cheese, pickled vegetables and horseradish aioli. Another highlight is the Oven Baked Pizza Dip, a trio of cheeses – buffalo mozzarella, ricotta and Parmesan – melted together in a hot plate and mixed with beef pepperoni; this sinful dip goes best with served with garlic focaccia bread.

The Chicken & Waffles has been a huge hit, and it is not hard to see why. Generous pieces of fried chicken are served on top of cheddar cheese and chicken bacon-dusted Belgian waffle – which is thicker than most waffles – and served with agave syrup. The latter is used as it has just the right amount of sweetness and complements the savoury chicken beautifully. Then there is the Oven Roasted Half Chicken served with basmati rice and broccoli spears. One word describes it: heavenly!

Be prepared for sugar overload if you have a sweet tooth, the most sinful of which is the Chocolate Mayhem cake topped with coconut caramel sauce and served with chocolate mousse, Snickers bars, dark chocolate espresso beans, and chocolate ice creams. Nothing is more American than a milkshake and we like the sound of the Ginger-Curry Milkshake, a blend of ginger, curry and whipped cream topped with tiny bits of candied ginger. It is surprisingly sweet with a hint of ginger heat

Although the Americana vibe is strong throughout, local elements can be found in the vegetables such as zucchini and chillies. Gula Melaka or palm sugar is used to make some of the desserts. “Some of the dishes have been tweaked to suit the local taste buds. What we do here is certainly different from a lot of the restaurants serving American food in town.”

To celebrate its opening, female diners get complimentary bottomless Sangria on weekdays from 5pm - 9pm.
