Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM) - also known as the Malaysian Institute of Architects, today launched the PAM Student Awards 2019, geared towards recognising and rewarding outstanding Malaysian talents amongst the upcoming batch of architectural graduates.
The PAM Student Awards is the highest accolade for Malaysian architectural graduates and students by the national organisation for architects. Organised since 2012, the current edition of the Awards is open to all Malaysians graduating in the year 2018 with the objective of promoting innovation, merit and excellence among the youth in the field of architecture. Award winners are selected by undergoing a rigorous 2-stage selection process of their architectural portfolios with interviews by a panel of experts.
The new 5-year cycle (2018-2022) of the PAM Student Awards is made possible with the generous support of principal benefactor, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Ar Haji Esa Mohamed. The PAM Student Awards continues from the PAM-Tan Sri Ar Chan Sau Lai Architecture Awards 2012-2016.
PAM President Ar. Ezumi Harzani: “Students can be nurtured and motivated to develop into great architects through competition and award programmes. Through the PAM Student Awards 2019, we hope to inspire students to have a sense of responsibility for the built environment and be desirous of creating excellent architecture. Platforms such as these Award programme will provide them with the opportunity to express their creativity and critical thinking skills, confidently.”
Principal Benefactor of PAM Student Awards 2019, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Ar. Hj Esa Mohamed: “I sincerely hope that the PAM Student Awards will inspire the next generation of architects towards innovative designs and solutions to meet and surpass the demands of a rapidly changing and complex environment, in Malaysia and other parts of the world.”
There will be 2 categories of the Awards, namely the PAM Silver Medal – for Part 2 level graduates, and the PAM Bronze Medal – for Part 1 level graduates. PAM Silver Medals are conferred upon outstanding participants who have successfully completed a Masters Architecture course, Bachelor of Architecture course or its equivalent. Outstanding participants who have successfully completed a Bachelor of Science of Architecture course or its equivalent will stand to be in consideration for a PAM Bronze Medal.
The PAM Silver Medallist/s, besides receiving a Certificate, will be presented with a Silver Medal and Prize Money of RM25,000, whilst the First Runner-up and Second Runner-Up will receive RM12,000 and RM8,000 respectively. Besides the winners, two Honorary Finalists will take home RM 3,500 and a Certificate each.
PAM Bronze Medallist/s will be conferred the Bronze Medal as well as Prize Money and Travel Grant valued at RM 8,000 and a Certificate, while up to 4 Finalists will take home RM2,500 and a Certificate each.
Submissions for the PAM Student Awards will be open from 10th January 2019 onwards, and the closing date for Stage 1 submissions will be the 8th March 2019. The presentation ceremony of the PAM Student Awards 2019 will take place in June 2019.
Ar. Ang Chee Cheong has been appointed as the Convenor and the Awards programme is organised by the PAM Awards and Competition Committee 2018-2019 chaired by Ar Dexter Koh Yew Peng with Ar Alice Leong Pek Lian and Ar Mike Boon as Co-Chairs.
