Sir Jonathon Porritt – A voice in the West
Mahbob Abdullah | 09 Aug 2019 00:30
I had wanted to meet Sir Jonathon Porritt as I had read his articles on oil palm. He is one of the voices in the West with a balanced view on the crop. He knows the industry, and he can also be critical when he sees something is not right.

So it was good to meet him at the recent conference in Kuala Lumpur held by the Incorporated Society of Planters, and he was asked to give the keynote address.

Sir Jonathon, a lanky 69-yearold, had studied in Oxford University, where he earned a first-class degree in modern languages. For some time he was active in politics as a leading member of the Green Party, with a passion for protecting the environment.
