MAS: Have political will to make tough decisions

Khazanah Nasional Bhd’s move to hire Morgan Stanley as an adviser for ailing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has received flak. It was reported that the US multinational investment bank and financial services company will look at strategic options for the national carrier.
Appointing Morgan Stanley may not be cheap. So, is it necessary to spend more money to evaluate options for MAS? Did Khazanah call for a request for proposal to determine which company would be the most cost-effective “adviser”?
In the past, Khazanah had hired international consultants to devise a turnaround strategy for the national carrier. According to reports, the bigwigs that had been called in included Bain & Company, McKinsey & Company and Seabury.
