The CEO of Malaysia Airlines (MAS), Capt Izham Ismail, was quoted as saying that closing down the airline would be a mistake.
He said that while MAS has been bleeding for many years, it still helps to contribute to the economy. Moreover, anyone brave enough to take on the liability of MAS would be "stupid", said Izham.
Well, stupid as it seems, we cannot assume that taxpayers will continue to bankroll its losses and heavy debts indefinitely. It should focus on being self-sustaining and show profits. For the record, there have been at least four failed attempts over the years to bail out MAS, involving billions of ringgit from the government.
