AirAsia leverages on cargo, e-commerce

The potential of e-commerce is positively impacting the airline cargo sector. According to global consulting firm McKinsey & Co, in the last 15 years, e-commerce has grown at 20% year-on-year. This presents a huge opportunity for airlines as their cargo business is expected to grow 25% yoy.

No wonder then that budget airline operator AirAsia Group Bhd recently moved to consolidate its cargo business through rebranding and internal restructuring. On July 16, AirAsia rebranded its logistics arm RedCargo Logistics Sdn Bhd to Teleport Commerce Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Teleport MY).

Teleport MY, initially wholly owned by Redbeat Ventures Sdn Bhd, will be transferred to Teleport Everywhere Pte Ltd (Teleport SG), both of which are wholly-owned subsidiaries of AirAsia. As such, Teleport SG that now owns Teleport MY will still remain as a wholly-owned subsidiary of AirAsia.
