Reaching for the sky

Malaysia has nearly 700 buildings. It has some of the tallest buildings inthe world with two structures, the Petronas Twin Towers and Exchange 106, which are listed in the world’s top 10 tallest.

The PNB 118, which is under construction and expected to be completed in 2021, will become Malaysia’s new number one and the third-tallest building in the world while Petronas Twin Towers remains unchallenged as the tallest twin structure in the world.

With more and more super skyscrapers gracing KL’s skyline, the question on everyone’s lips is: How high can we go?

Veritas Design Group founder and president David Mizan Hashim says it can go as high as the client wants but the engineers will be tasked with coming up with ideas on how to build it.

“We can design buildings that are one-mile high, or even two miles, but will it be feasible? As long as the base is sufficiently big, the height can be achieved,” he tells FocusM.
