DEPARTMENT store brand Robinson Co. (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd is cease to operate in Malaysia to start the liquidation process as it is no longer available to continue operations.
The two locations of the stores are at The Gardens Mall and The Shoppes at Four Seasons Place.
The company has been suffering from weak demand for its physical stores as online sales started spiking up since the pandemic started.
According to Robinsons senior general manager Danny Lim, the department store operator recorded a negative growth rate of 8.5% in Malaysia in the first quarter of the year compared to the same period in 2019.
Concurrently, Robinsons stores in Singapore will also undergo a similar liquidation process.
Subject to confirmation, the liquidators are hoping the stores will remain open for the coming weeks to facilitate final sales for customers before they are shuttered.
Citing a study on retail trend, Robinsons expect over half of mall-based department stores might close in the next five years. – Oct 30, 2020
