COVID-19: Top Glove confirms outbreak, adhering to all protocols

TOP Glove Corporation Sdn Bhd (Top Glove) announced that several of its employees, in four of its factories across the nation, have tested positive for COVID-19.

“With that, all our employees in our Port Dickson had gone for screening with the Health Ministry (MOH) on Jan 14 and the affected employees are currently under quarantine.

“Foreign workers under quarantine are placed in designated quarantine quarters, while Malaysian staff are undergoing the quarantine period at home.

“Top Glove is also arranging for the employees at our factory in Sungai Puloh, Klang to undergo mass screening today.

“For another two facilities where there have been some cases, in Kulim and Shah Alam, contact tracing and screening of close contacts is underway, regardless of whether or not the employees are displaying symptoms. All related costs for employees, both foreign and local, will be borne by Top Glove,” it said following a query by FocusM.

Recently, rumours spread that a COVID-19 outbreak has occurred in several of Top Glove’s factories across Peninsula Malaysia, leaving many anxious as the nation is currently having four-digit new infections daily.

Last month, the Department of Labour of Peninsular Malaysia (JTKSM) announced that it has opened 19 investigation papers against Top Glove for allegedly violating the Minimum Standards Act on Housing, Accommodation and Employee Facilities 1990 (Act 446).

On the recent case, Top Glove said that it had identified primary contacts of the affected employees over the past 14 days and they will be placed under quarantine and undergo swab tests, before permitted to resume work.

It added that as precaution, the company has thoroughly disinfected the premises, including living quarters and company vehicles where the affected individuals were seen present.

“The disinfection was carried out by a third-party professional provider. We are closely monitoring the situation and in communication with the management team on development and updates of all employees involved, on a daily basis.

“Top Glove reiterates that the health and safety of our employees is a top priority. As the Company continues to produce high-quality medical gloves to protect medical practitioners and frontliners across the world, we are dedicated to adhering to stringent measures to safeguard our employees as well as the communities we serve,” it remarked. – Jan 16, 2021
