Is there a plot to protect Zeti from the law? Umno man asks Government

FOLLOWING a damning allegation that former Bank Negara Governor’s Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz’s spouse had received millions from fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low, a Umno leader queried on whether there are “hidden hands” protecting the former from the law.

“Why didn’t the prosecution team from former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s case mention this to the latter’s defence counsel? Zeti is a key witness.

“And what has happened to the police reports lodged against Zeti two months ago by Umno Youth and other parties? Is there a conspiracy here?” asked its supreme council member Datuk Puad Zarkashi, in a Facebook post.

Yesterday, financial daily The Edge reported that the Singaporean police had alerted Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) on suspicious transactions from Jho Low to a company owned by Zeti’s husband and son, while she was still serving as the central bank’s governor.

It was said that the Singaporean Police Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) had alerted BNM in 2015 and 2016, involving a company called Iron Rhapsody, and began investigating transactions linked to the controversial 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

The company was said to have received US$16.22 mil in total.

Answer the allegation, Zeti

Datuk Puad Zarkashi’s post on Facebook

Targetting Zeti, Puad urged the former to come clean over the allegations made instead of keeping mum about it.

The Edge reported that Zeti’s family received US$16.22 mil from Jho Low, through a family account in Singapore.

“It seems the Singaporean police had alerted BNM on the suspicious transaction and the news portal is in possession of several documents to affirm this. Being the BNM governor then, Zeti must have known about it,” the former deputy minister claimed.

Puad added that it was now known that Zeti’s husband is Jho Low’s partner in the Abu Dhabi Malaysia Kuwait Investment Corporation (ADKMIC), established in 2007, with almost US$153 mil transferred to the company from 2011 to 2013.

“And in 2019, Zeti’s own family had signed statutory declarations (SD) admitting that they received monies from 1MDB.

“Why is the Perikatan Nasional Government and the its predecessor Pakatan Harapan kept mum about this fact?” he asked. – Feb 28, 2021.
