Blackpink is the revolution?

16,000 Blinks flooded Shah Alam’s Malawati Indoor Stadium for two days of Blackpink concerts.

“Hit you with that ddu-du ddu-du du” – the opening act that captured the heart of 8,000 Blinks (that’s the name Blackpink fans have coined for themselves!) on the first day of the Blackpink 2019 World Tour (In Your Area) Kuala Lumpur.

A live band accompanied the group on their chart-topping song and the show started with a blast of fireworks on stage, igniting fans’ enthusiasm. The YG entertainment girl group continued performing Forever Young, Stay and Whistle in their pink outfits with lots of bling, and boots.

Taking a breather from their energetic performance, the four members introduced themselves in Bahasa Malaysia, “Saya Jisoo. Hi Malaysia, Saya Jennie. Hi Malaysia, saya Rosé. Saya Lisa,” making the crowd even more ecstatic, and led to them screaming out and chanting their favourite members’ names.

It did not end there, Jisoo continued to interact with her adoring fans saying, “Kami cinta padamu” and this only seemed to stir emotions further. Individually, Blackpink members shone on their own during the concert, but the most mesmerising performance was by Lisa. Her previous performances have been amazing, and seeing the same powerful dancing on Take Me and Swalla was a dream came true. With the pink, gold and blue fringe top creating a beautiful twirling effect, Lisa’s solo stage performance was fabulous and lived up to expectations! The soulful performance by Rosé was also something to look out for during the tour, and I am pretty sure the audience got goosebumps with the three songs she sang accompanied by piano.

Blackpink members also shine during their solo performances.

But something happened when the four girls were meant to reunite for the bilingual track by Dua Lipa, Kiss and Make Up – where was Jennie? Seeing the incomplete team on stage made me wonder what had happened when she rushed backstage – but we’ll just put it down to technical difficulties. Despite the error, Jennie soon walked back on stage during the second half of the song, professionally pulling off the rest of the performance.

Blackpink performed 18 songs in total including the dance cover to 16 Shots, a reggae version of Really and its debut titles Whistle and Boombayah, but the
concert ended faster than I imagined. Even with two encore songs, it felt like the engine was only starting to warm up! Hopefully, the girls will come out with more than their current 10 original songs this year as mentioned by the agency founder, Yang Hyun Suk, in early February so that the next tour will feel much more fulfilling.

Blackpink 2019 World Tour (In Your Area) Kuala Lumpur was the first concert that MacpiePro (organiser) secured for the two-day show in Malaysia, presented by Kia Motors.
