WHILE most flights would usually give out a warning for passengers to turn off their mobile phones before the flight takes off, Qatar Airways is one airline that would encourage the passengers to keep it on since they will be using it for the in-flight entertainment.
Yesterday, the airline announced that its award-winning Oryx One 100% Zero-Touch technology is set to take flight for the A350 fleet, which was developed in partnership with Thales AVANT IFE (in-flight entertainment) system.
It allows the passengers to connect their personal electronic devices (PEDs) with their seat-back IFE screen, giving them access to navigate through over 4,000 options in the airline’s entertainment system.
However, this is only made possible by limiting the frequency of the PEDs of an on-board surface in order to avoid any disruptions throughout the journey.
Additionally, Qatar Airways is also set to become the first airline in Europe and the Middle East and North Africa region to offer passengers in Business and Economy the option to pair their personal Bluetooth headphones with the on-board seatback IFE system in all cabins on the Boeing 787-9 fleet.
“The introduction of the state-of-the-art Zero-Touch technology, and enabling passengers to use their personal Bluetooth headset on board is an important step in taking our already rigorous and stringent COVID-19 precautions to another level, limiting passenger surface contact and preventing any possible spread of infection on board,” said Qatar Airways group CEO His Excellency Akbar Al Baker. – Feb 20, 2021
