Tinder for food

Malaysians throw away 15,000 tonnes of food on a daily basis, and that’s enough to feed 12 million people three times a day. A food sharing community platform, FOOSH has decided it’s time to combat that problem by providing a platform to share the surplus food.

The “Tinder for Food” platform offers discounted meals from local food outlets, and a percentage of proceeds will go to donating meals for the underprivileged. The initiative is called “Buy A Deal, Donate A Meal” which seeks to provide support for individuals, especially children who are victims of circumstances that are beyond their control.

During its soft launch in July, Laduree Malaysia became the first partner under FOOSH premium. The programme is calling for all high-end (or what we call the white table cloth) restaurants to start this green journey together.

“Laduree is the first to join FOOSH premium, and the chef had experimented with the menu by preparing food for the guests using surplus ingredients. If our guests leave feeling the food is not delicious, then I guess it was a failure. But feedback was that the food tasted great, and that is the best evidence that the experiment has succeeded. We are working on our full launch, and we look forward to having more restaurants join us to make a change together,“ said Founder and CEO of FOOSH, Tan Shi Wen.
