Bersatu’s Rais Hussin is new MDEC chairman

Bersatu supreme council member Rais Hussin Mohamed Ariff has been named as the new chairman for Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), sources familiar with the matter tell FocusM.

MDEC is an industry development agency wholly owned by the Minister of Finance Inc, tasked with the implementation of the digital economy.

MDEC falls under the purview of the Communications and Multimedia Ministry whose minister is Saifuddin Abdullah.

Rais is expected to meet Saifuddin and the MDEC team this Monday (June 15). MDEC CEO is Surina Shukri.

It is understood that Rais’ name was initially nominated for the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission chairmanship.

Rais is the founder and director of think tank Emir Research (M) Sdn Bhd, which also counts AirAsia founder Tony Fernandes as a director.

He is also the founder and chief executive officer of telecommunications services provider The Red Snapper (M) Sdn Bhd. – June 12, 2020
