Bursa Malaysia stays positive at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia remained in positive territory at mid-afternoon today on a surge in the financial services counters as news about the Short-Term Economic Recovery Plan slated for this month spread cheer in the market.

At 3 pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) gained 13.03 points to 1,503.17 from 1,490.14 at Monday’s close.

Turnover stood at 6.45 billion units worth RM3.92 bil.

Meanwhile, market breadth was also positive with gainers exceeding decliners 478 to 442, while 370 counters were unchanged, 578 untraded and 26 others suspended.

Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said the Prime Minister is set to soon launch the Short-Term Economic Recovery Plan focusing on three main goals – empowering the people, boosting business and spurring economic growth.

Of heavyweights, Maybank added seven sen to RM7.55, Public Bank, listed as the top gainer, increased 92 sen to RM15.50, Tenaga bagged 14 sen to RM12.04, and Petronas Chemicals improved nine sen to RM6.27.

Meanwhile, IHH Healthcare declined two sen to RM5.54.

Among actives, K-One improved 9.5 sen to 54 sen, KNM Group, Bumi Armada and AT Systematization added one sen each to 26 sen, 24 sen and 8.5 sen, respectively.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index improved 71.77 points to 10,618.62, the FBMT 100 Index put on 72.87 points to 10,471.58, the FBM 70 chalked up 18.71 points to 13,190.42, the FBM ACE rose 17.5 points to 5,948.82, while the FBM Emas Shariah Index eased 25.79 points to 12,198.85.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index added 1.55 points to 131.27, the Financial Services Index increased 231.92 points to 12,655.21, while the Plantation Index dropped 64.42 points to 6,757.71. – June 2, 2020, Bernama
