Bursa stays in the red at mid-day

BURSA Malaysia remained in the red at the end of the morning trading session, but managed to trim its losses.

At lunch break, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 35.21 points lower at 1,268.07 compared to Friday’s close of 1,303.28.

After opening 53.78 point easier at 1,249.50 this morning, the benchmark index moved between 1,241.46 and 1,272.38 during the session.

On the broader market, losers overtook gainers 732 to 117, while 183 counters were unchanged, 987 not traded and 17 suspended.

Turnover amounted to 1.63 billion shares worth RM1.08 bil.

On the KLCI, Digi added one sen to RM4.18, while Hartalega was up four sen to RM6.66.

Meanwhile, Maybank declined 26 sen to RM7.25, CIMB Group skidded 27 sen to RM3.37 and Public Bank shed 16 sen to RM13.88.

Of the actives, AirAsia Group took the lead following the announcement that its co-founders, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, have been cleared of corruption allegations related to the Airbus scandal.

Its share price stood at 62 sen, with 55.38 million shares traded.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index contracted 270.44 points to 8,572.34, the FBM Emas Shariah Index narrowed 261.02 points to 9,403.12 and the FBM 70 gave up 381.42 points to 9,506.85.

The FBMT 100 Index dropped 258.78 points to 8,530.52 and the FBM Ace depreciated 160.83 points to 3,358.29.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index inched down 3.65 points to 96.10, the Financial Services Index declined 380.05 points to 11,441.46 and the Plantation Index was 141.28 points lower at 5,796.35. — March 23, 2020, Bernama
