In a statement today, SKM said as a large entity with more than six million members representing 20% of the country’s population, mostly from the B40 group, the cooperative movement could play a role as one of the main drivers of the country’s economic growth.
It said SKM’s initiatives such as the launch of Kedai Harga Patut (KHP) cooperatives nationwide have also helped to provide consumers access to fair-priced goods.
“As of December last year, the cooperative wholesale and retail sector contributed almost RM1 bil in revenue while its supply chain, logistics and 25,000 retail stores nationwide can be deployed nationwide to address the people’s cost of living issues,” it said.
It added that the cooperative movement has been around for almost a century and has proven itself relevant and timely. – March 4, 2020, Bernama
