COVID-19: A slight rise in new cases, Selangor tops infection rate

THE Health Ministry (MOH) has reported 1,285 COVID-19 cases and four deaths in the past 24 hours.

In a statement today, Health Ministry’s director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that there were 1,175 recoveries, bringing the total number of those recovered to 340,242.

He also noted that out of 1,285 new infections, 1,268 cases were locally transmitted, in which 78.8% or 999 of them were locals and 269 were foreigners.

Currently, there are 14,203 active COVID-19 cases nationwide, of which 186 COVID-19 patients are in intensive care unit (ICU) with 81 requiring ventilator support.

Selangor records the highest number of cases in the last 24 hours with 374 infections, of which 292 cases (78.1%) are from clusters and active COVID-19 contact tracing being conducted at the field. This is followed by Sarawak with 211 new infections and Pulau Pinang (162).

On a related matter, Noor Hisham announced that his ministry has detected four new clusters in the country while 10 clusters have ended today. – April 8, 2021
