COVID-19: New record high of 3,309 cases, 11 new clusters detected

THE Health Ministry has reported a total of 3,309 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, yet another new daily record for Malaysia.

“For now, the total number of infections stands at 141,533. Unfortunately, four people have lost their lives to the virus, bringing the total number of fatalities to 559,” Health Ministry’s director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement.

He also noted that 3,303 cases were local transmissions while the rest are imported infections. In addition, out of 3,303 locally transmitted cases, 2,461 of them were locals and 842 were foreigners.

Meanwhile, Selangor recorded the highest number of cases again with 1,007 infections, followed by Johor (442) and Sabah (409).

Currently, there are 190 COVID-19 patients in intensive care unit (ICU), with 83 requiring ventilator support.

On related matter, Noor Hisham announced that 11 new COVID-19 clusters have been detected in Malaysia.

The new clusters are Jalan Manan (in Klang, Selangor) and Persiaran Kuala (Selangor), Udarama (Kuala Lumpur) and Iris (Kuala Lumpur), among others. – Jan 12, 2021
