COVID-19: Positive cases nationwide breaches 4k; Selangor surpasses the 1k mark

THE number of new infections in country has surged to 4,498 in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry (MOH).  

The last time Malaysia recorded over 4,000 cases of COVID-19 in a day was on February 4 this year.

In a tweet, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced that 3,449 patients have been cured, with the total discharged now stands at 396,004.

According to Dr Noor Hisham, out of the 4,498 new cases, 4,493 cases were local transmissions.

“Twenty-two people have died today, bringing the death tally to 1,632,” he added.

Currently, there are 34,789 active COVID-19 cases in the country, in which 372 patients in intensive care unit (ICU) with 211 requiring ventilator support.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases again, surpassed the 1,000-mark, with 1,424 new COVID-19 infections, followed by Sarawak (750) and Kuala Lumpur (436).

On a related matter, Dr Noor Hisham announced that his ministry has detected 19 new clusters in the country, of which 10 are workplace clusters. – May 7, 2021
