COVID-19: Sarawak and Kelantan on high-alert as infections soar

THE upcoming festive season looks increasingly bleak as Malaysia recorded 2,195 new COVID-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative total to 375,054.

In a tweet, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced that 1,427 patients have been cured, with the total discharged now stands at 353,822.

“Eight people have died today, bringing the death tally to 1,378,” he added.

Sarawak recorded the highest number of cases today with 508, followed by Selangor (431), Johor (387) and Kelantan (332).

“Of the current active cases, 219 patients are still in receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 90 of them in need of ventilator support,” he remarked. – April 17, 2021.
