Fire at PD oil refinery, no injuries reported

PORT DICKSON: A fire occurred at one of the crude tanks at Hengyuan Refining Company Bhd (HRC) this afternoon, and the company reports no injuries with cause of fire unknown at present.

It said its emergency management and response team was triggered and the fire, rescue and medical (FiRM) team was deployed to the site at 4.32 pm to extinguish the fire.

“HRC is working closely with the local authorities including the Fire and Rescue Service to manage the situation and will provide our full cooperation to investigate this incident. Further information will be provided in a timely manner,” a company statement added.

In December 2016, Malaysia Hengyuan International Limited (MHIL) acquired a 51% equity stake in Shell Refining Company (Federation of Malaya) Bhd (SRC) from Shell Overseas Holdings Limited for US$66.3 mil (RM289.23 mil).

MHIL is wholly-owned by Heng Yuan Holdings Ltd, which in turn is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shandong Hengyuan Petrochemical Company Limited.

HRC manages and operates a refinery in Port Dickson with a licensed production capacity of 156,000 barrels per day. It is involved in the refining and manufacturing of petroleum products, and provides employment for more than 500 people including contractors. – May 22, 2020
