HRDF aims to increase training places by 20% this year

KUALA LUMPUR: The Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) approved almost RM700 mil in financial assistance to support 1.04 million training places in 2019, up 18% from 2018.

In a statement, the HRDF said it also increased approved total certification programmes by 17.7% to 51,193 training places.

In an efforts to strengthen governance, transparency and enforcement, the fund increased its enforcement visits tenfold to 5,466 last year from 552 in 2018, as well as expanded its coverage to 29,701 employers, serving 2.43 million employees.

In Budget 2020, the government has allocated RM30 mil to HRDF for upskilling Malaysian youths from the lower-income families through technical and vocational education and training (TVET), while a further RM20 mil on a matching basis was also allocated to upskill Malaysians in IR 4.0 industry recognised certifications.

“In this regard, the HRDF would soon announce programmes under these budget allocations,” it said.

This year, HRDF plans to approve 1.25 million training places, an increase of 20% from last year and aims to approve 60,000 training places for industry certification programmes in 2020. – Jan 6, 2020 Bernama
