Menara City One condo tower under enhanced movement control order

KUALA LUMPUR: Authorities have ordered a lockdown of the Menara City One building near Jalan Masjid India here after 17 Covid-19 cases originated from the condominium.

Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the building, located at Jalan Munshi Abdullah, is under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO), which means stricter curbs on residents’ movement, for the next two weeks.

This is the third area to be under the EMCO after Simpang Renggam in Johor and Sungai Lui in Selangor.

The EMCO, from tomorrow to April 13, will affect 3,200 residents in 502 condominium units as well as business premises in the building.

“The purpose of the EMCO is to contain the Covid-19 virus from spreading. This measure will allow case-tracing exercises to be conducted from unit to unit throughout the 14 days.

“All residents are asked to remain calm and to fully cooperate with the health ministry officers and obey the authorities’ instructions,” Ismail said in a statement.

Residents will not be allowed to leave while visitors and non-residents will not be allowed into the area during the period as all exits from the area will be closed.

All businesses will be closed except for those selling essentials while residents will still be able to order food deliveries, which are to be sent to the tower’s main lobby.

A medical base will be set up in the area while police, army and Rela members will monitor the entire area. – March 30, 2020
