Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin is in the hot seat after she was discovered to have received an RM1 mil donation made by a property developer that was blacklisted up to May 8, the day before the presentation ceremony.

On May 12, Zuraida posted on Instagram that ECK Development Sdn Bhd, led by Penang-based tycoon Tan Sri Khor Eng Chuen, donated RM1 mil to her pressure group Penggerak Komuniti Negara (PKN).

PKN is known as a political organisation that campaigns for former PKR leaders who are now with Perikatan Nasional (PN).

But the post, which showed Zuraida receiving the mock cheque, had since been deleted.

The donation, said Zuraida in that Instagram post, was made on Saturday (May 9) to PKN for the organisation’s Covid-19 response.

According to the Housing and Local Government Ministry’s website, ECK Development was in the blacklist for failing to settle compound payments.

But checks today revealed an updated blacklist “as of May 15” where the company had been removed.

Neither Zuraida nor ECK Development has issued a statement at the time of writing. – May 14, 2020
