Rhone Ma has no plans to look into Covid-19 vaccines, says MD

RHONE MA Holdings Bhd will not be looking into providing or handling vaccines for Covid-19, according to managing director Dr Lim Ban Keong.

“There is just no way to switch our vaccine facilities for this,” said Dr Lim, noting that the process for animal vaccines and human vaccines is completely different.

He also explained that any such vaccines coming into Malaysia has to be handled by the government as well.

Rhone Ma, as a group that deals with vaccines for poultry and swine, as well as petcare equipment, has a segment working on human healthcare as well.

“However, our human healthcare segment is still in its infancy, and our focus right now is into allergies,” Dr Lim told FocusM.

He also shared that the human healthcare segment is also looking at good growth, and is in a position to allow Rhone Ma to explore the segment further.

This, he explained, would allow Rhone Ma to work towards the necessary certifications and qualifications, such as the Good Distribution Practices for Medical Devices (GDPMD) from the Medical Devices Authority under the Ministry of Health, as well as ISO certification.

“With our expertise and strength in marketing, we will be looking to introduce biotech products in future,” shared Dr Lim.

However, the group will not be looking into Covid-19 test kits either, due to it being antibody-focused, as well as there being a saturated market.

“So, Rhone Ma is taking not part in that,” said Dr Lim.

At 3.22 pm, Rhone Ma’s shares were at a static 62 sen, with 71,500 shares traded. – Aug 6, 2020
