SAMENTA seeking ways to mitigate coronavirus impact on SMEs

KUALA LUMPUR: The Small and Medium Enterprises Association (SAMENTA) Malaysia is monitoring the 2019 Novel Coronavirus outbreak closely and is in touch with government agencies to identify issues that may crop up and to find ways to mitigate the impact on its members.

In a statement today (Feb 09), the association said it recognises the outbreak’s impact on businesses, especially on small and medium enterprises in Malaysia.

“Many of our members have reported a slowdown in business, particularly those in the retail, tourism and distributive trade,” said SAMENTA Policy and Government Relations chairman Datuk William Ng.

He also urged Malaysians not to spread unverified news on the virus.

“We should adopt an evidence-based approach in handling the situation, and refer to the experts in the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation for directions.

“We advise all members to remain vigilant, and to educate all employees on the right preventive measures to minimise risks,” he added. – Feb 09, 2020, Bernama.
