Sarawak side of Pan Borneo Highway to be ready by August 2022 – Minister

KUCHING: The Sarawak portion of the Pan Borneo Highway (PBH) is expected to be completed at the latest by August 2022, Works Minister Baru Bian said today.

The date was arrived at based on the latest inputs from the Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) and all the work package contractors (WPCs) which showed that the project was already behind schedule before the ministry took over, he added.

“These facts must be put on the table for all to know. We don’t want to be accused after this that the project had been delayed after we took over,” he told the media after attending a meeting on the future direction of the Pan Borneo Highway at the Sarawak PWD headquarters here.

At the meeting, Sarawak PWD was appointed as the superintending officer of the Sarawak portion of the PBH after the contract of Lebuh Raya Borneo Utara Sdn Bhd (LBU) as the project delivery partner was terminated effective today.

According to the minister, over the next three months, Sarawak PWD is expected to get more accurate data to set a clearer date for completion of the project.

The portion, involving 11 packages, covers a distance of 786.41 km. – Feb 20, 2020, Bernama
