Covid-19: Thailand’s rubber glove exports jump 16% in 1st four months

BANGKOK: Thailand’s rubber glove exports surged 16% year-on-year for the January-April period this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Auramon Supthaweethum, director-general of Thailand’s Trade Negotiations Department under the Commerce Ministry, said the pandemic boosted the country’s rubber exports, especially that of rubber gloves.

“Global demand for protective gloves is soaring. In the first four months, rubber glove exports rose 16% to US$449.2 mil (RM1.96 bil) from the same period last year,” she said in a statement today.

Last year, Thailand produced more than 20 billion rubber gloves, 89% or US$1.2 bil of which was for export.

Thailand’s top rubber glove export markets include the US with exports worth US$193.9 mil, followed by the European Union (US$82.9 mil), China (US$31 mil), Japan (US$22.6 mil) and Asean (US$18.3 mil). – May 27, 2020, Bernama
