AS Israeli aggression continues against Palestinians, a Umno leader urged Malaysia and the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) to intervene and put an end to the injustice.
“We’re growing weary of Israel’s aggression but for the Zionist state, it’s business as usual. It’s not right to allow such violence to continue happening and we must play an active role.
“I urge the Malaysian Government, OIC and other powerful nations to stand up and collectively condemn the Israeli Government,” Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, in a Facebook post.
Last Friday, it was reported that more than 150 Palestinians were injured after Israeli riot police clashed with the former at the Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa mosque.
This is the latest attacks against the Palestinians after a series of other indiscretions with the former in the Holy City and occupied West Banks region.
According to reports, Friday’s unrest came on Al-Quds Day (the Arabic name for Jerusalem), an annual day of pro-Palestinian rallies held by Iran, the arch-nemesis of Israel, which also saw many thousands march in majority-Muslim countries.
Yesterday, Malaysia’s Foreign Affairs Minister criticised the incursion and attacks by the Israeli forces, as well as Israeli settlers against Palestinian civilians and those praying in the mosque.
Peace process thrown out the window
Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the Israeli Government must be held responsible and accountable for its continued violation of human rights and international law.
“The targeted aggression against the worshippers during prayers in the final days of Holy Ramadan in Al-Aqsa Mosque is indeed contemptuous to all Muslims and humanity,” the Sembrong MP was reported saying.
It is to note that many Muslims nations in the Middle East have normalised ties with Israel, such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain and Morocco.
Long-serving Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has been flaring up far-right rhetoric of late, is under tremendous pressure in his country as he has failed to form a working Government and facing trial for corruption.
Mohamad Hasan said the Israel-Palestine peace plan will continue to get undermined if the occupying forces continue its violent ways against Palestinians.
“Israel’s violence against the Palestinians must be criticised and they must be held accountable for their misdeeds.
“Will the Israeli Government ever grow a conscience and compassion?” the Rantau lawmaker asked. – May 9, 2021.
