BEAUFORT MP Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun of Bersatu is the new Mara chairman effective today (May 1).  The Rural Development Ministry said in a statement that she would serve for two years, until April 30, 2022.

Azizah replaces Hasnita Hashim, a banking professional, after the latter and her team were sacked on March 18 after Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and his Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition came to power.

Other appointments that had been confirmed by the ministry today are:

  • Jempol MP Datuk Mohd Salim Sharif as Risda chairman (Umno)
  • Bachok MP Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz as Kesedar chairman (PAS)
  • Senator Datuk Razali Idris as Ketengah chairman (Bersatu)
  • Permas state assemblyman Datuk Che Zakaria Mohd Salleh as Kejora chairman (Bersatu)

“These appointments were made after considering the candidates’ leadership capabilities, experience and contribution to the people,” Rural Development Minister Datuk Dr Abd Latiff Ahmad said in a statement today.

These changes in various agencies, statutory bodies as well as various government-owned corporations come as Muhyiddin consolidates power. It is believed that many PN MPs will be rewarded with plum jobs.
