Deputy works minister quits

DEPUTY Works Minister Shahruddin Md Salleh has resigned from his post effective today.

Shahruddin, who is also Sri Gading MP, said he made an “incorrect” move in joining Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

“I should have put the interests of my constituents who voted for Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the 14th general election.

“As the first step to correct this mistake, I am resigning from my post as I was appointed by the prime minister of the PN government,” he said.

Earlier, Shahruddin said that he wished both Muhyiddin and Mahathir could close ranks and strengthen Bersatu.

This came on the back of a feud between Muhyiddin and former prime minister and Bersatu co-founder Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad since February, when the former decided to pull Bersatu out from PH, leading to the collapse of the coalition and the government. – June 4, 2020
