BlackRock has a total investment of RM24.7b in at least 100 companies in M’sia

MUCH hated these days for alleged ties with Israel which has been carrying out a bloody war on Gaza since October 2023, it is now revealed by a local news portal that the American company BlackRock has invested RM24.7 bil in various Malaysian companies and government bonds.

The RM24.7 bil is divided into listed company equity investments of RM18.7 bil and bonds of RM7.9 bil.

The portal said that based on BlackRock’s list of investments in Malaysia, the banking sector is among the top three entities it invests in, namely Public Bank at RM2.34 bil (2.75%), followed by Maybank at RM2.16bil (1.88%) and CIMB at RM1.42 bil (2.07%).

Tenaga Nasional Bhd ranked fourth with an investment of RM8.6 mil (1.32%), followed by Metal Aluminum at RM625 mil (1.62%) and CelcomDigi at RM526 mil (1.03%). Refer to the table below.

BlackRock also has the highest investment in Malaysian government bonds of RM2.53 bil, Petronas Capital RM2.52 bil, and bond issues of RM1.57 bil.

Based on the data, it is clear that BlackRock is not a new investor but has already been actively involved, even maintaining an operational office in Malaysia.

BlackRock is also the world’s largest international investment company, managing global assets worth approximately US$10 tril.

According to the shareholder data of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), BlackRock already holds a 2.10% equity stake, valued at RM35 mil, in this airport operator company.
