“Go ahead, but find evidence first,” Fahmi says on PN’s plan to file election petition over KKB poll victory

PAKATAN Harapan is unperturbed by Perikatan Nasional’s plan to file an election petition to challenge the unity government’s victory in the recent Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

Speaking at the post-cabinet meeting press conference today (May 21), PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil said the opposition could “go ahead” and seek legal redress on the matter, FMT reported.

“(But they must) find the evidence,” he was quoted as telling reporters.

Fahmi, who is also the unity government spokesperson, was responding to Selangor PN chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali’s announcement that PN is gathering evidence for election petition to challenge PH’s victory in the KKB by-election.

Azmin said on Monday (May 20) that PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has told their lawyers to gather evidence and all 16 district polling centre chiefs will be assisting the legal team.

Speaking at a press conference at PN’s headquarters in Petaling Jaya, Azmin said the coalition will choose cases that are solid to be presented as an election petition.

Recall that prior to the KKB by-election, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said PN will file an election petition if PH wins the by-election.

Takiyuddin, who is also the opposition chief whip, claimed PN has evidence of government misconduct which could allegedly sway voters in the polls.

PH leaders have since denied the allegation, insisting they had adhered to election laws.

In the May 11 by-election, DAP’s Pang Sock Tao retained the seat for PH in a four-cornered fight, beating PN’s Khairul Azhari Saut with a majority of 3,869 votes. – May 21, 2024
