Is it lawful for staunch boycotters to hurl insults, curses at cars queueing at McD’s drive-thru?

SHOULDN’T the barbaric act of a group of Palestinian flag-waving hardcore boycotters on a 4WD pick-up truck hurling insults at cars queuing up at a McDonald’s (McD’s) drive-thru be deemed a form of harassment and not to be condoned at all costs?

In fact, one netizen who posted a video clip of the incident which was believed to have taken place at the Sungai Isap McD’s outlet in Gambang, Pahang during the recent Hari Raya festivity claimed that he would have lodged a police report against the “overly pro-Palestinian bunch if his car happened to be in the queue”.

The netizen Amer Al-Jeffrey (@amer__aljeffrey) whose post has been viewed almost 790,000 times at the time of writing further described as “weird” the action of “boycotters who at the outset of the boycott campaign were willing to stand under the scorching sun to record people who entered the drive-thru”.

Even though the boycotters have no intention to hurl insult at the customers but was solely targeting the management or business owner, some netizens claimed that their so-called “pro-Palestinian cause with Zionist behaviour” has somehow “harassed, disturbed or frightened off the customers”.

Some netizens wondered if the boycotters have gone overboard in their action without realising the impact of their action on the country’s economy.

Others contended that each individual should be given the right to decide if they wish to support the boycott cause or otherwise without being forced to do so. After all, “boycott alone is unlikely to stop the on-going war in the West Bank nor had the World War I (WWI) and WWII came to an end because of boycott”.

Or the boycotters should at least have the decency to suggest another food option or even prepare food for those queuing up at the MCd’s drive-thru, suggested one netizen.

Even then, there are still many who are staunchly boycotting American brands like McD’s.

To conclude, one netizen boldly asked why not the staunch boycotters on the 4WD pick-up truck fight alongside the Palestinian freedom fighters? – April 15, 2024
