Wei Chong-Kai Wun to face Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang in Indonesian Open

IN a thrilling display of skill, Malaysia’s men’s doubles duo Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun secured a spot in the Indonesia Open final with a hard-fought victory over Indonesia’s Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Reza Pahlevi Isfahani in the semi-final.

World 20 status Wei Chong-Kai Wun started fiercely against the Indonesian pair Istora Senayan, Jakarta. The Indonesians received strong support from the home fans in a high-intensity match.

Our pair won 29-27 in a fierce battle in the first set. In the second set, Wei Chong-Kai Wun did not look back but increased the pressure on Sabar Karyaman-Moh Reza ranked 29 in the world, clinching a 21-13 victory in 45 minutes.

Their impressive win sets them up for a showdown against China’s Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang, the world No. 2 pair.

 

 

In the quarterfinals, Wei Chong-Kai Wun defeated the Danish doubles Rasmus Kjaer-Frederik Sogaard, 21-18, 19-21, 21-12.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s last remaining pair Tan Kian Meng and Lai Pei Jing fell short in the mixed doubles semi-final. Despite a valiant effort, they succumbed to a 21-16, 21-18 defeat against China’s Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin. – June 9, 2024
