11 nabbed over river pollution

THE police have arrested 11 individuals, including a factory manager, during a raid on a palm oil processing factory in Rawang over Sungai Kundang pollution.

In a statement, Selangor CID chief Datuk Fadzil Ahmad said the suspects, three locals and eight migrant workers, were nabbed during a raid at Kundang Jaya yesterday.

‘We confiscated several documents as well as the equipment which was believed to have caused the water pollution. All detainees have been remanded for seven days, starting today till Nov 2,” he said.

Earlier today, three men, including a company director, were also remanded to facilitate investigations into the pollution at Sungai Kundang.

The company director is being investigated under Section 430 of the Penal Code for “committing mischief by causing a diminution in the supply of water for human beings and animals”.

Last week, Syarikat Pengurusan Air Selangor (Air Selangor) detected odour pollution in Sungai Kundang, a river basin of Sungai Selangor and Sungai Langat.

However, the early detection managed to prevent fresh water disruptions in the Klang Valley. – Oct 27, 2020
