150 passengers rescued after Penang Hill train service halted

ABOUT 150 passengers of the Penang Hill funicular train had to be rescued after the train’s service was disrupted at the middle station this afternoon, Bernama reported.

According to the report, following a distress call to the Fire and Rescue Department, the passengers were walked down to the lower station through the funicular railway line, after they were stranded for about two hours.

A Penang Fire and Rescue Department operation centre spokesman said they were alerted about the incident by one of the passengers at 2.33 pm.

Bernama citing the Penang Hill Corporation’s Facebook post, said the problem had been solved and the train service had resumed at 3.55 pm.

It was also reported that the Corporation had apologised for any conveniences caused and thanked all passengers for their patience and understanding. – Oct 3, 2020
