1MDB critic and ex-IGP Abdul Hamid remarries

FORMER inspector-general of police (IGP) Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador, who made headlines for his criticism of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, has remarried.

According to news reports, Abdul Hamid married DSP Fazreena Abdul Karim, a police officer attached to the Police Museum, in a modest ceremony on Saturday (Aug 6).

Pictures of the newlyweds have gone viral on social media.

Abdul Hamid is reported to be a widower, although public information about this is scant.

A long-time officer with Bukit Aman’s special branch, Abdul Hamid was not someone who had spent much time in the public eye.

That all changed in 2015 when he refused to go quietly after he was transferred to the Prime Minister’s Department.

He claimed the transfer was to silence him from criticising the handling of the 1MDB investigations. He was later removed from the Royal Malaysian Police Force (PDRM).

After Barisan Nasional lost the 14th General Elections (GE14) in 2018, Abdul Hamid was appointed to the 1MDB special investigation task force by Pakatan Harapan. He was later re-appointed to the special branch as well.

In 2019, he took over as the nation’s top cop after briefly serving as deputy IGP.

As IGP, he was probably best known for his outspokenness in exposing cartels in the police force.

He was also instrumental in getting the police force to agree with the setting up of the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC).

However, before his IGP contract ended in May 2021, he had still not managed to bring back the alleged 1MDB mastermind and fugitive financier Low Taek Jho or Jho Low.

Neither had he brought in M Indira Gandhi’s husband, who had taken away her daughter and unilaterally converted her to Islam. – Aug 9, 2022
