“WHAT crossed your mind to cook at a petrol station? Haven’t it occurred to you that there are storage tanks underground? And then you had to upload (the video) on social media.”

Such were Magistrate Nadratun Naiem Zainan’s words to the four individuals who were jointly charged with endangering others by cooking instant noodles at a petrol station in Genting Highlands near here on May 12.

The four individuals – Fadhli Zil Ikram Sazalin Isran Ji, 24; Nurfatin Irdina Shahrulnizam, 24; Nur Anis Salleh, 24; and Nur Azira Azman, 23 – were fined RM500 each after they pleaded guilty to the offences.

According to the charge sheet, the four of them had cooked instant noodles using a gas stove in the vicinity of a petrol station at Taman Cendawan, Genting Highlands.

All the accused were convicted under Section 336 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Act, which carries a maximum prison sentence of three months, a fine of up to RM500, or both.

The prosecution, led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Zamharir Muhammad Zuhid, however requested an appropriate punishment for all the accused to serve as a lesson to them and the public.

Nadratun then imposed a RM500 fine for each of them or three days imprisonment if the accused cannot pay the fine.
