800 acres of gov’t land opened for B40 agriculture under the IPR initiative

ECONOMY Minister Rafizi Ramli said the government’s people’s income initiative (IPR) to be launched tomorrow (Feb 26), will ensure a stable food supply and low prices that can be enjoyed by various layers of society. As part of this initiative, the government will open up 800 acres of government land for agricultural purposes, providing opportunities for capital support and training. The IPR aims to help the poor increase their income potential and improve their household earning capacity, Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said during his Budget 2023 presentation.“Major agricultural commodities such as palm oil which have given export value with encouraging results will be infused with new agricultural products to ensure that the agricultural sector provides sustainable input towards National Food Security,” said Rafizi in a statement.According to Rafizi, by opening up hundreds of acres of government land, as was done in the Felda initiative in the 1960s to plant oil palm and rubber, it is hoped that the economy of the country and the people will continue to grow.“To realise this effort, as many as 800 acres of land owned by the Federal Government will be used by the B40 and extreme poor for agricultural purposes.“The government will also open up opportunities for capital support and training,” he added. Moreover, Rafizi said this plan was drawn up by the government to ensure that the national food security system remains sustainable by encompassing four indicators, which are stability of supply, availability, consumption, and access. The Pandan MP said the IPR will be officially launched tomorrow, Feb 26 at the Cempaka LRT station, Ampang, Selangor, around 10.00am The public is invited to attend the launch. — Feb 25, 2023
