FOREIGN investors have turned net buyers again for the week ended May 13 after a week of net selling during the week prior.
Net inflows from them during the period summed up to RM56.9 mil, according to MIDF Research.
“To date, international funds have been net buyers for 15 out of the 19 weeks of 2022 with a total net inflow of RM6.98 bil,” the research house pointed out in its weekly fund flow report. “They were net sellers on Wednesday (May 11) and Thursday (May 12) at -RM2.08 mil and -RM145.2 mil respectively.”
Meanwhile, local retailers remained net buyers for the fifth consecutive week with RM234.8 mil while local institutions turned net sellers after a week of net buying with a net selling position of -RM291.8 mil last week.
They were net sellers on every trading session of the week except on Thursday (May 12) when they net bought RM41.38 mil worth of equities.
Their highest net selling was recorded on Tuesday (May 10) at -RM200.67 mil while the smallest net selling occurred on Wednesday (May 11) at RM40.44 mil.
Local institutions have been net sellers for 16 out of 19 weeks this year. Year-to-date (YTD), they have sold RM8.1 bil worth of equities.
On the contrary, local retailers were net buyers on every trading session during the week with the highest net buying on Thursday (May 12) at RM103.83 mil while the smallest net buying took place on Tuesday (May 10) at RM21.34 mil.
In terms of participation, foreign investors saw a decrease in the average daily trade value (ADTV) by -24.76%. Local retailers saw a decline of -6.9% but local institutions saw an increase of +9.49%.
In comparison with another three Southeast Asian markets tracked by MIDF Research last week, Malaysia was the only market which posted a net inflow at US$13.06 mil while Indonesia posted the biggest outflow at -US$625.6 mil after having recorded net inflows for the past seven weeks.
Thailand also snapped 14th straight week of inflows with at outflow of U$83.2 mil while the Philippines continued to encounter outflow at US$79.56 mil.
The top three stocks with the highest net money inflow last week were Hengyuan Refining Company Bhd (RM3.92 mil), Sime Darby Plantation Bhd (RM2.47 mil) and RHB Bank Bhd (RM2.44 mil). – May 17, 2022
