Wan Saiful: Muhyiddin will pick Zuraida’s replacement in Cabinet

PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will choose a new Cabinet replacement following Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin’s resignation from Bersatu.

According to Bersatu information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan, the party had discussed Zuraida’s position and issued a show-cause letter following a review of her actions.

“Regarding the Cabinet (position), Muhyiddin as president of Bersatu and chairman of PN, will nominate suitable candidates from among the leaders of Bersatu,” he said.

Earlier today, Zuraida, who is also the Ampang MP and the Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister, announced her resignation from Bersatu to join newly-formed Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).

In her statement, Zuraida also said that she will meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob at the “soonest” to discuss her resignation as the Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister, alongside the role and direction of PBM in strengthening the Keluarga Malaysia Government.

On this matter, Wan Saiful also said that Zuraida’s resignation was not shocking and was in fact expected.

“In a situation where the whole country is talking about the importance of political stability, it seems that Zuraida is acting on her own judgement only,” he remarked.

It was previously reported that Bersatu’s supreme council had discussed firing Zuraida and several other party members over alleged involvement with PBM which was set up by a group of former PKR leaders known to be aligned to her.

There have also been speculations of Zuraida’s departure from Bersatu since late last year, alongside rumours of her fallout with the Bersatu party leadership.

Zuraida is currently in Turkey to speak at the opening ceremony of the Seventh Pioneers Conference for the Global Women’s Coalition for Al-Quds and Palestine.

According to reports, she is expected to return to Malaysia on June 2, following her participation in a Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) business mission. – May 26, 2022
