“What choice do we have, FOMCA?”: Netizens pan group for saying “change buying habit”

YESTERDAY (May 28), Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (FOMCA) urged consumers to change their buying habits to ensure they do not overspend as prices of good are expected to increase by up to 60% next month.

With that, its CEO T Saravanan urged the Government to provide aid to the needy while reminding the public on the issues plaguing supply and demand.

“The Government is doing its best to control the situation but we must understand that they cannot do everything.

“Prices of goods are also affected by supply and demand. Right now, many from the M40 and B40 are affected by soaring prices as they purchasing power had also depreciated,” Free Malaysia Today reported him as saying.

However, netizens were unimpressed by Saravanan’s call in asking the people to change their purchasing habits and took to social media to criticise him.

(Seriously? What choice do the people have? If fish is expensive, then go eat chicken. If chicken is expensive, go eat sardine. If sardine is pricy, go eat eggs but even eggs are getting dearer. What choice are you babbling about?)

Echoing Marina’s sentiments, user Nick Arthur added:

Netizen Nohd Anees jested:

(There is an option. Let us rear five chickens…as suggested by a modest minister who apparently only earns RM1,500 and drives a Kancil. They understand the people’s plight all too well)

Despite rising cost of goods and a weakening Ringgit, Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz insisted that foreign analysts remained optimistic about the prospects of a strong ringgit recovery in the near future.

He had also attributed the ringgit’s current depreciation to temporary factors such as expectations of the global monetary policy situation and the continued tightening of global liquidity, which have alarmed the international investor community.

“As a result, they have reallocated funds to higher-yielding assets denominated in US dollar. This has led to the depreciation of various global currencies, including the ringgit,” Bernama reported him a saying yesterday.

Dumb leaders

However, former finance minister Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah had warned the Government to address the matter urgently or risk having the Ringgit falling to RM5.50 against the greenback by year end.

On that note, user Ywna12 said that Malaysia has no shortage of imbecilic ministers who can come up with the most ridiculous statements in an attempt to mislead the public.

(There are a lot of dumb ministers in the country. One even said that rise in fuel prices can reduce accidents…what else will they say about other issues)
