A Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) leader criticised UMNO supreme council member Datuk Mohd Razlan Muhamad Rafii for antagonising the Registrar of Societies (ROS) over the approval process for the amendments made to the nationalist party’s constitution.
“Another UMNO leader just showed us how arrogant and dumb he can be. I’m not sure whether Razlan didn’t understand the prime minister’s statement or he just wants to show-off.
“Either way, I must reiterate that neither did Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob gave the ROS a deadline nor did he say he will intervene on the matter,” said its election strategist Badrul Hisham Shaharin, who is also known as Chegubard.
Yesterday, Razlan claimed that the Home Ministry was disregarding the prime minister’s directive by delaying approval to UMNO’s constitutional amendments.
“Even though the prime minister had set the deadline on July 16, the ministry had ignored it. I believe the minister had failed to discharge his duties,” Malaysiakini reported him as saying.
On July 16, UMNO youth chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the ROS has no excuse to not approve the constitutional amendments made to UMNO’s charter as Ismail Sabri himself had supported it, in his capacity as a UMNO vice president.
“As the prime minister, Ismail Sabri’s authority is way above the home minister, the person in charge of the ROS,” Berita Harian reported him as saying.
Inept caretakers
It is to note that Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, a Bersatu leader, had reiterated that while ROS comes under his purview, the agency has to act according to the book.
Touching on the matter, Badrul reminded UMNO that Ismail Sabri is a man who respects separation of powers and did not issue any deadline on the approval process.
“He merely stated that such approvals take 60 days to process. Do you detect any instruction from his tone?” he queried.
Badrul then urged UMNO leaders to remain patient as it was proven that the ROS want to be as thorough as possible, given that they had requested supporting documents from UMNO secretary general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.
“I believe the delay is caused by Ahmad Maslan, who is inept in running UMNO’s daily affairs. This is what happens when you allow caretakers to run the show.” – July 21, 2022
