FORMER Ketereh MP Tan Sri Annuar Musa has claimed that UMNO’s failure to discuss his exclusion from the list of candidates for the forthcoming 15th General Election (GE15) violates the party’s constitution.
The former Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general was among the notable UMNO ministers who were omitted from the coalition’s list of candidates for GE15 announced by BN chairman and UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi last night.
“Alhamdulillah, things are finally clear now after hearing the announcement for myself. It was rather vague previously as [I was neither] consulted nor brought in for negotiations as per the party’s constitution,” he wrote in a Facebook post.
As for his next move Annuar said he will consult his grassroot supporters and gauge the sentiment of his supporters before deciding on his next move.
Rumours of Annuar being side-lined from UMNO’s GE15 line-up surfaced yesterday when it was reported that he was not invited to BN’s candidate announcement ceremony for GE15 at UMNO’s headquarters.
Annuar lost the seat to a PKR candidate in 2008 but wrested it back in 2013 before retaining it in the last general election in 2018.
Last weekend he stressed that he wished to defend the Ketereh seat and would not contest if offered another constituency in GE15.
Annuar, who is Ketereh UMNO division chief, said he had been holding to this principle as he wanted to serve in his birthplace. – Nov 2, 2022
