“See you in court,” Sanusi tells Anwar over alleged defamatory speech

PAS election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said he will not apologise to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for allegedly insinuating that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman was “morally bankrupt” recently.

“I don’t want [to apologise], I want to see [him] in court,” the PAS lawmaker said at a ceramah last night, to chants of “takbir” from the crowd.

“I did not accuse him. I just commented on what happened. Everyone knows [about it],” he said referring to the PKR president’s sodomy conviction.

Anwar was granted a full pardon by the King in 2018 for his three convictions – one for abuse of power and two for sodomy – on the basis that there was a “miscarriage of justice”.

Yesterday, Anwar demanded RM10 mil from Sanusi, who is Kedah menteri besar, and demanded a retraction of the comments, an apology and a written pledge not to repeat them.

In a letter of demand (LOD) sent to Sanusi, who is Kedah menteri besar, through law firm SN Nair and Partners, Anwar said he would instruct his counsel to apply for an injunction order against the PAS man should the demands not be met.

The RM10 mil demand is as compensation for allegedly causing serious injury to his reputation.

Sanusi is said to have made the remarks during a ceramah in support of Perikatan Nasional candidate Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, the former Tambun MP, according to the letter of demand.

However, at a ceramah for PN candidate Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman in Sik last night, Sanusi said he had not received the letter of demand from Anwar’s lawyer, SN Nair.

Sanusi reiterated his comments that only a man could be the Sik MP.

“Both women candidates (from BN and PH) can’t (be Sik MP). Sik needs a male candidate. You have Ustaz Tarmizi here, choose him,” he was reported as saying.

The speech, which was carried “live” on Facebook, attacked Anwar who is standing in the Tambun parliamentary seat.

The video had garnered more than 1,700 reactions, 3,700 comments and was shared 716 times at time of writing.
