Kelantan MB’s daughter cries foul over mom’s alleged “luxury bag” slander

THE alleged “luxury bag” of Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob’s wife Siti Zubaidah Ab Hamid drew the attention of netizens and sparked online discussions earlier this week.

It was a photo of Zubaidah accompanying Ahmad Yakob to the airport to greet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, when the latter came to assess the flood situation.

Simultaneously, Zubaidah’s daughter Azma Ahmad has denied that her mother carried a luxury handbag when welcoming the Anwar to the state recently.

Azma also lambasted those who insulted her mother for the matter on her Facebook page.

Responding to claims on social media that Zubaidah was carrying a Dior lambskin bag costing RM26,500, Azma said that the bag was in fact their (hers and her siblings) gift to mother for Family Day 2022.

“They (critics) have no other ammo, but to slander over this. Mum said rather than spending RM26,000 on a bag, better buy gold,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, the Kelantan Menteri Besar Office’s Communications Office also disputed the claims, calling them an effort to tarnish the reputation of the state administration.

“The latest slander is an attempt to spoil the reputation of the Kelantan MB through slander about his wife’s ‘luxury handbag’, without any basis whatsoever. The fact is the bag is only worth about RM300 and not RM26,000 as claimed,” said the department on Facebook.

Furthermore, the attempt to “assassinate the character” of the state leadership when it is working hard to control the flood crisis was further criticised. – Dec 24, 2022
