PUBLIC Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi today announced a reduction in toll rates on the Sungai Besi Expressway (Besraya) and the Kajang-Seremban Expressway (Lekas) applicable to all Class 1 vehicles starting tomorrow (Jan 1).
“Through restructuring the structure and toll rates for these two highways, the government will be able to save an estimated RM1.978 bil compensation allocation during the concession period, and the allocation can be channelled to meet other basic needs of Malaysians,” Bernama reported him as saying.
He said the toll rate will be reduced by 15 sen for Class 1 vehicles passing through the Loke Yew and Mines toll plazas (North & South direction) on the Besraya Expressway.
The toll rate for Class 1 vehicles travelling on the Lekas Expressway will be reduced from 0.1811 sen/km to 0.1666 sen/km under the closed toll system. The toll rate remains the same for the open toll system, which is at the Ampangan Toll Plaza.
Nanta also said the reduction in the toll rate was made after the discussion and agreement of the concessionaire company of the two highways, namely IJM Corporation Berhad, in line with the Cabinet’s decision on Dec 21.
“It is also part of the reorganization of the structure and toll rates for the two highways involved,” he said in a statement.
Currently, Class 1 vehicles are charged RM2 on the Besraya Expressway and RM8.30 for travelling the full length of the Lekas Expressway, but starting tomorrow, the toll charges will amount to RM1.85 and RM7.80, respectively.
According to Nanta, the restructuring of the toll rates for these two highways will also save the Government from having to pay an estimated RM1.978 bil in compensation to the concessionaires involved, if the toll collection was abolished.
